Band Vs. DJ

Every wedding needs music, so the big question is: Band or DJ? Imagine this: you’re at your reception, your DJ starts playing music, and you notice only a few of your guests have left their seats for the dance floor. The rest are still in their seats chatting or watching the younger guests dance. The recorded songs blasting over the speakers are the same as every other wedding your guests have ever attended and simply aren’t enough to get people grooving. The energy is lacking. What went wrong?

For starters, a live band is way more fun and energetic that a DJ. If you’ve ever been to a wedding with a live band, you know exactly what we’re talking about. A live band will get everyone, from your niece to your grandfather, on the dance floor. As your band members dance along and enjoy the music, the fun energy will emanate from the stage and inspire your guests to keep the party going!

Bands are also unique. Live bands tend to spend a lot of time curating and practicing their set list for your event. They value quality over quantity. While a DJ may be able to choose from thousands of the same old recorded songs on the spot, do you really want your tipsy guests to be picking all the music for your event? Plus, a band can edit lyrics or create mashups of your favourite jams so they’re appropriate for all your guests. With a band, every song played live will be unique to your event–something recorded music could never do.

Finally, there’s something bespoke and elegant about a live band. Maybe it’s the horn section or maybe it’s that these musicians have spent years or lifetimes mastering their craft. Either way, your event will feel extra special.

If you’re still undecided, we have great news for you! When you hire our band to play at your event, you will have the option to add on a 1 hour DJ set to round out the night. This is a great opportunity for your friends to let loose with their requests or to force them to listen to your obscure favourites because it’s YOUR day. It’s truly the best of both worlds!
